Wheelhouse Theatre Company

The Wheelhouse Theatre Company was founded in 2006 and is the resident company at The Colour House and its two neighbouring venues – The Chapter House Theatre and The Open Air Bandstand.

The company is made up of a unique team of artists: actors, writers, directors, designers, musicians and technicians, all with distinguished and extensive theatre backgrounds, who work together to produce a wide variety of shows throughout their seasons.

A central area in our canon is Classical theatre from Europe and beyond, staging productions of English writers such as Shakespeare, Ford and Webster to foreign masters such as Goethe, Calderon and Moliere.

The other most prominent focus in our company is the cultivation of new writing from up and coming playwrights to the premiering of established author’s new works.

A welcome from the Artistic Director:

The Wheelhouse Theatre Company is an amalgamation of several companies and entertainment organisations that have for many years brought immeasurable pleasure to audiences throughout the world. To bracket all of these separate concerns into one company is to join and strengthen our joint beliefs, ambitions and artistic philosophies so we can persevere to greater achievements in the future. To have a base at The Colour House enforces our aims. The revolutionary and, alas, unsung work produced by this unique venue over 13 years has been

remarkable and it is an honour to contribute to this rich heritage.

Our first full season at the theatre, starting in September and going through to April 08, promises to be very exciting indeed. Our aim to bring diverse and engrossing subject matter has been realised and already the program, still in its early stages, reflects the company’s desire to showcase the finest acting, writing and production talent in hard hitting and epoch making productions.

We hope you will come and share in our delight at raising the bar of performance at the Colour House and anywhere else for that matter!
